The NGCT entry in the Eastern Ontario Drama League one-act play festival this year will be something new, on several fronts. It will be the first performance of this Canadian play. It will be the first play written by an emerging author, Roos Spanjers. And Roos will be directing the work, which is another first for her.
This play opens our minds to a gone-by time, when the Netherlands suffered under the Nazi occupation in World War II. It is also about the connections within a family that are catalyzed when today’s children are introduced to a treasure of stories that their great-grandmother shared with their mom about growing up as a teenager in Amsterdam during the Second World War. History is not just an exercise in school, it defines who we have become.
The play is based on real events.
The EODL festival will take place in Merrickville this year, from November 7 to 9. We hear that it is going to be hard to get tickets, so if you plan to go, get those now.
Fans of NGCT will have another chance to see this play. The dress rehearsal will be open to the public, for a free-will donation. This will be at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, in North Gower, at 2 PM on Sunday November 2. Donations will be given to the church, as a thank-you for letting NGCT use the space.
